PANSA Community Support Visits Program Multisport

Goal

$31,000.00

PANSA represents the sport community of African community backgrounds in Western Australia, with the most under-resourced and yet strategically important sport groups being informal and unconnected with sport peak bodies or formal clubs. Around 1319 participants and 31 sport groups are active at varying times and places.

There is no other program of this kind in Western Australia owned and driven by the community it seeks to support. Using its privileged position and sport and community industry expertise, PANSA will empower multicultural sport groups with:

  • Administration support
  • Mental health resources and advice
  • Planning advice sessions
  • Insurance cover
  • Equipment provision (note: donations above $600 can have branded equipment supplied, inquire for details)
  • Technical coaching support to improve sport delivery
  • Venue hire funds

Informal multicultural sport groups have many reasons to exist and face many gaps and barriers, which are a distraction from the true purpose of why leaders and elders of our WA African community have proactively volunteered to set up and maintain sport programs:

  • Social connection
  • Mental wellbeing
  • Promoting positive physical activity, with significant health outcomes
  • Peer support amidst immersion in a place with a different culture and language
  • Club fees are prohibitively expensive
  • Club participation regularly requires multiple contact times each week, even for the busiest people
  • Cultural identify is a commonality rather than an oddity for those from similar backgrounds

This campaign will foster new associations and partnerships with supporters as people, organisations and businesses, especially those with active projects in African, who have a like-minded approach to developing sport and social connection to people from African backgrounds. Africa-exposed companies who seek a social dividend with established, proven, transparent and accountable activities will find a strong social return on investment opportunity here.
