Perth College Friends of Rowing is a sports support group within the Perth College organisation. The group exists to assist with the development of the sport of rowing at Perth College and to support the participation of Perth College in the IGSSA Rowing Competition. Our fundraising program is an ongoing exercise as we are continually raising funds to support the ongoing purchase, replacement and maintenance of rowing and training equipment. Each year we raise funds to support targeted equipment purchases. The equipment includes ergo rowing machines, oars, boats and coaching equipment such as dinghies and timing devices. Rowing equipment can be expensive and often deteriorates quickly due to the salt water environment in which it is used. By having a structured equipment life-cycle expectation and forecast, we can prepare for the future and be certain that our equipment replacement program matches the needs of the developing squad. By meeting the needs of the squad we thus ensure that each crew can train and race utilising the best equipment possible and thus enhance each rowers’ experience. We believe that if we can create a positive schoolgirl’s rowing experience then the sport of rowing will benefit once the girl’s leave school and seek out continuing club rowing experiences. A number of Perth College leavers have already gone on to represent rowing at state and national levels and we hope to continue this development.
