Visit websitePDCC is fundraising to fully refurbish the Prospect Oval training wickets, which are used by our approximately 140 senior and junior players.
The current training wickets, situated at the back of Prospect Oval, have raised areas at both the batting and bowling creases, which compromises bowlers actions, directs water to the centre of the pitches, has caused soil to become permanently displaced and makes it more difficult for the pitches to recover between training sessions.
The Club has engaged Living Turf Scientific Turf Management to review the practice wickets and provide recommendations. Living Turf's recommendations are:
- Undertake soil nutrient test as soon as possible to allow fertility program to be implemented before winter to establish best possible turf coverage.
- Repair gates to allowing facility to be locked.
- Undertake survey to confirm levels and extent of remedial work required
- Begin correcting raised areas at batting and bowling creases, as well as bowlers approach to crease, likely requiring:
- “Top making” of 5m wide strip across all pitches at bowling crease to level of centre of pitches (approx 125m2)
- “Top making” of 3m wide strip across all pitches at batting crease to level of centre of pitches (approx 75m2)
- Sod cutting of 5m strip of kikuyu across all pitches at bowlers end of pitch square and establishing consistent transition from run up area to pitch square by importing approved sandy loam (approx 125m2)
- Renovate and top dress entire pitch square
- Lay washed Santa Ana to all new turf pitch areas
- Lay unwashed Santa Ana to bowlers run up area
- Implement kikuyu control program at margins of pitch square
A successful fundraising drive will allow the Club to implement all of the above recommendations and provide high class training facilities to all our junior and senior players.
