21 year old Tokyo Olympian Bec Henderson would love it if you could help support her athletic journey to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics and 2023 World Athletics Championships! Bec is currently #3 All Time Australian for the 20km racewalk and has posted the 10th fastest time in the world this year.
Bec has been selected to compete in the 2023 World Athletics Championships and achieved an auto-qualification standard for the 2024 Paris Olympics in the 20km racewalk. Costs for these events, and their preparation are extremely high due to the need to travel overseas for the events themselves and beforehand to ensure she can get the best preparation to perform her best on the day.
As a self-funded athlete, Bec currently works 3 part-time jobs as a tutor, swim teacher and kids party host to fund her athletic journey. She also volunteers as an ambassador of the Sports Excellence Scholarship fund, to help and menotr disadvantaged school children achieve their dream of competing for their state in school sport, while maintaining life balance. As well as training 2 times a day, she also is currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Scholars) at Monash University, with the hopes of completing her medical degree. She loves to be able to give back and help the younger generation reach their goals in both sport and life.
Bec is also the current 35km racewalk national champion and hopes to qualify for this event at upcoming major championships as well as the 20km. She recently competed at the Tokyo Olympics as the youngest in the field, and finished 4th at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 20th at the last World Championships. Since these events, she has improved her 20km time by 3 minutes, putting her up with the best walkers in the world at only 21. Her goal is to achieve a top 8 performance at the upcoming Olympics and World Championships, and to then progess to medal placings as she continues to develop as an athlete. She loves her sport and is eyeing off medal placings at the 2028 and 2032 Olympic Games.
The costs of elite sport are very extensive, with all the expenses for traveling interstate and internationally for competitions and training camps, registration fees for races, competition uniforms, annual athletic membership, training fees, physio as well as training gear and shoes (which need to be replaced every 2 months after training 120km each week). The most difficult part is funding the international travel required to compete in these major events. Bec has had to miss some events in the past due to these extensive costs, being unable to fund herself, and would love to be able to ensure she is able to represent Australia at a second Olympic Games and World Championships, after already posting qualifying times.
As a self-funded athlete, Bec would be very appreciative of any support, big or small, you or your business can provide her on her athletic journey to Paris 2024 and beyond. Your donation would greatly help offset some of the costs associated with travel and competition, for the 2023 World Athletics Championships and 2024 Olympic Games. Thank you for supporting Bec's athletic journey and providing her with the opportunity to pursue her goals in sport and reach the highest level possible!
