With the support of the Bayside Council, the Sandringham Athletic Club (SAC) are seeking to raise money to contribute to the cost of a lighting upgrade at the Sandringham Athletics Track. We will be applying for government grants in 2025 to cover a large portion of the cost of which SAC will be required to contribute up to 50% of the cost.

When the track was re-developed in 2021 the electrical footings were installed for this future lighting project. Since then the SAC committee have engaged a lighting engineer, Webb Australia, at our own cost and had the plans drawn up ready for action. The upgraded lighting will include our current 2 light poles, changing from halogen globes to LED lighting.

The current lighting at the venue only covers 50% of the track, with the remaining 50% in complete darkness. The dark areas include 3 shot put rings, a discus ring, javelin runway, majority of back straight and 3 sand pits. It is essential that we upgrade the lighting at this venue to create a safer training environment for all track users - including women, children, our elite athletes and local community group users.

With the upgraded lighting we will also have the ability to host small specialist athletics meets such as High Velocity Club and Vic Milers.
