Hello!
I’m Sarah Burr, a professional pickleball player, a 38-year-old mother, and an ambassador for athletes everywhere, especially those who, like me, are defying age and expectations. I'm thrilled to share my journey and ask for your support as I aim to conquer the pickleball world, one dink at a time.
My Journey
In 2021, at 35 years old, I discovered pickleball and instantly fell in love with the rapidly growing sport. Balancing training with my responsibilities as a mother, I committed to rigorous 4am - 6:30am training sessions, followed by work and parenting duties. My hard work paid off as I quickly rose through the Australian ranks, securing the coveted triple crown at the Australian Championships and the World Pickleball Championships in Bali in 2022.
Determined to compete at the highest level, I made the bold decision to pack up my family and head to the US in October 2022. We lived frugally, even selling my car to fund our journey, but the experience was invaluable. I achieved significant success and made a name for myself in the professional pickleball circuit. In December 2022, after our funds ran dry, we returned to Australia, only to receive the exciting news that I had been drafted by the Arizona Drive Major League Pickleball team, becoming the first Australian ever to do so. I flew back to the US to compete in the first season and proved my mettle against some of the best in the sport.
The Rise of Major League Pickleball Australia
Pickleball fever really hit Australia last year with the first professional league launching - Major League Pickleball Australia. Sporting legends began purchasing teams and I had the honour of being named captain of the Gold Coast Glory team - owned by Nat Cook and Adam Scott. The Gold Coast Glory team had an incredible first season of 2024, finishing on top of the sheets at the Brisbane Championships in May. I was recognised as the highest achieving individual at this event. My recent form and extreme passion for pickleball has prompted me to again look to compete overseas. I feel that I have much more to prove on the global pickleball stage, but I need your help.
The Road Ahead
My journey has only just begun. I am now aiming to compete in prestigious tournaments in India, Bali, Vietnam, and the USA. This tour is not just about personal glory; it’s about shining a spotlight on female athletes over thirty, particularly mothers, proving that athletic dreams don't have to end when you have children.
Join My Journey
By donating, you’re not just supporting my journey; you’re joining it. Together, we can break barriers, inspire others, and show that with passion and determination, anything is possible.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible adventure. Let’s make history together!
With gratitude,
Sarah Burr
