Indigenous Diamonds Pathway Program

Indigenous Diamonds Pathway Program

SCALA Indigenous Corporation (SCALA) trading as Sport, Culture and Leadership Academy (Academy) is a 100% Aboriginal organisation led by women.

SCALA's Academy provides culturally appropriate coaching and mentoring that is specifically designed for First Nations athletes, coaches and umpires in the sport of netball.

Part of our legacy is responding to a 'Declaration of Commitment' which was signed by 20 of Australian netball's peak bodies in 2020 to address the bias and to take action to break down the significant barriers that have prevented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes from flourishing in the sport (see https://netball.com.au/news/netballs-declaration-commitment).

Our inaugural Indigenous Diamonds Pathway Program (IDPP) produced the first "all-Indigenous" team to compete at premier league level anywhere in Australia and has set a precedent by providing culturally safe pathways for Indigenous netballers, and our initiatives have set the benchmark to achieve equitable opportunities for Indigenous participation in in the sport of netball.

Our first IDPP operated in North Queensland from 2022-2023 and we are now operating our IDPP in South-East Queensland.

Our not-for-profit/charity organisation needs help to cover our costs, including but not limited to netball equipment and merchandise, individual fees and competition registration fees for players, coaches and managers, logistics and team development activities, end of season award expenses, first aid kit, costs for upgrading accreditations and blue cards, venue and facilities hire, and other approved costs and expenditure.

We would be grateful if you could please make a tax deductible donation to support the work we do. We also would welcome any enquiries regarding partnership/sponsorship of our programs and activities. Thank you!
