The 2021 World Championship for Cross Country skiing will take place in February and March 2021 in Oberstdorf in Germany. Australia hopes to send a team of 6-8 athletes to Oberstdorf, together with 4-5 support staff. The 2019 World Championship in Seefeld, Austria was one of the most successful in Australian XC skiing history, with 1 top 30 and 3 top 40 results.
Accommodation alone for the championship will cost over $2,000 per athlete, not to mention airfares, land transport, the pre-competition training camp and miscellaneous expenses. Total expenses per athlete will come to around $4,000-$5,000, depending on where they are travelling from and whether they are staying for the entire championship. SSA will endeavour to cover coaching and waxing support from other funding sources, however the majority of funds to cover athlete expenses will come from this project and our associated fundraising activities run under the XC Towards 2022 banner, including the Sundeck Cup, Hoppet Ski Waxing, and the AUSXC Season Launch.
Many thanks for your support! Keep abreast of our fundraising activities via the AUSXC website or via @ausxc on social media.
