About the project

Women's rugby is experiencing significant growth in our area with many of the junior Rugby Clubs fielding sides in the under 13 to 17 age groups. Women's 7s is an Olympic and Commonwealth Games Sport. As the junior clubs develop young players, Southern Districts Rugby must be there to create a pathway to higher levels of rugby.

The current Women’s 7s Rugby Program at Southern Districts has been running for two seasons. In season one the women were runners up in the Shute Shield competition and won a number of regional tournaments. They travelled at their own expense to Borneo to complete in the Asian 7s. Again, they were runners up. Their successes continue this season where we now have two teams. In our area, the women’s game is growing in popularity. We continue to have more young women wanting to play. This five year, $50,000 per annum program will, on application and under the strategic direction of the program, release funds to the Women’s program to ensure that players are afforded every available opportunity to improve and thrive.

Donations to this fund will support specialist coaching, player development, training equipment, education, workplace skills, placement programs, recruitment programs, accommodation and travel expenses, both regionally and internationally for our women’s rugby program. The Rebelettes are the link in the development of young ladies to achieve their goals in rugby. Donations of $2 or more to the Women’s Rebelettes Rugby Program are tax deductible. Please show your support for SDRC Women’s Rugby by making a tax deductible donation today.
