St Catherine's Rowing Project

St Catherine's Rowing Project

St Catherine's School, established in 1856 is the oldest Anglican girls School in Australia with 1050 students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

St Catherine's rowing program, is open to students, parents, staff and our wider community. The program incorporates healthy lifestyle patterns and a discipline that assists the development of strong character with sound time management skills. There are many options for students to contest regattas, either individuals or as members of a quad, an eight or a double.

St Catherine's rowing competes against both clubs and schools, building strong relationships with our extended community. The highlight of the rowing calendar is the annual SGHOR (School Girl Head of River) regatta.

St Catherine's is now recognised as a notable force in girls rowing having launched its start-up rowing program in 2011.

We are also thrilled to share that our St Catherine's rowers performed excellently at the Head of the River on Saturday 18 March. The St Catherine's team consisted of 75 girls from Years 8-12 and finished fourth overall on the points table with an amazing four gold and two bronze medals.

Our talented Year 8 rowers won gold in the Year 8 Division 1 and 2 Quads, with both crews undefeated throughout the rowing season in their respective races.

In the last race of the day, our Schoolgirl 1st VIII made history, winning gold in a record-breaking time of 6:37.

Our 1st VIII girls have since flown to Perth on Sunday 26 March to compete in the Australian Rowing Championships. At the competition, our St Cath's rowers won gold in the Under19 VIII+ final, making the team national champions. It was a thrilling race with the team winning by 0.75 seconds.

After this phenomenal performance, our 1st VIII rowers were given the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Henley Royal Rowing Regatta in the UK. The girls did such a fantastic job in incredibly tough conditions, making it to the quarter-finals of this world-class event and breaking an event record while competing on the global stage for the first time!

Our thanks to the generosity of friends of the school who donated two boats so the squad could get started. With the high cost of maintaining and building our program, the support of our community is critical to the growth of St Catherine's rowing.

The rowing project offers new opportunities for our students to excel in sport and enables a wider offering to our students Years 7 - 12 to participate as a team. Our students and their families currently benefit from the program.

Please donate today and help us achieve our goals and expand participation to incorporate our wider school community. Find out more about us on our website, Facebook or Twitter.
