St Catherine's School Rowing Program

OUR STORY: A TRADITION OF SUCCESS

Since its founding in 1987, St Catherine’s Rowing Program has been a small but mighty force in the rowing world, competing at the highest levels on the state, national, and international stage. Our rowers have proudly represented St Catherine’s at the Victorian State Championships, the Australian National Rowing Championships, and the prestigious Head of the Schoolgirls Regatta.

From humble beginnings on the Yarra River at the Mercantile Rowing Club, we’ve built a legacy of excellence – but also of fun, camaraderie, and teamwork. Beyond the medals, our focus is on fostering a strong culture of support and collaboration. We believe that building these core values leads to not only outstanding performance, but also a sense of belonging and joy for our rowers.

Building Teamwork and Lifelong Skills

At St Catherine’s, rowing is more than just a sport – it’s a community that nurtures resilience, teamwork, and the ability to overcome challenges together. Our rowers develop lifelong friendships and a passion for staying active. By keeping teenage girls engaged in team sport, we help them build confidence and a strong work ethic that will serve them on and off the water.

Recent Achievements

Our history is rich with success, and the past decade has seen St Catherine’s rowers excel:

  • Head of the Schoolgirls Regatta
  • First XIII Champions in 2021 and 2022
  • Australian National Rowing Championships
  • First XIII Champions in 2016 and 2022
  • Henley Royal Regatta

In 2022, St Catherine’s made history by winning the prestigious Prince Philip Challenge Trophy in an international final against the US national champions – marking the first time an Australian schoolgirl crew had ever triumphed at Henley in its 180-year history.

The crew was awarded the Leander Challenge Cup for the most outstanding junior crew.

This combination of top-tier coaching, a positive culture, and cutting-edge equipment keeps our girls engaged and motivated.

A Pathway to International Success

Many of our rowers have gone on to represent Victoria and Australia at the Under 19, Under 21, Under 23, and senior levels, winning medals at the World Rowing Championships. Others have secured prestigious rowing scholarships at top universities around the world, including Oxford, Princeton, Brown, and UCLA.
