St Catherines School Rowing Equipment

St Catherines School Rowing Equipment

St Catherine's Rowing is about to celebrate its 35 Year Anniversary. Commencing in 1987, the program has now become one of the most successful Schoolgirl Rowing Programs in the country. The St Catherine’s crews compete in various Rowing Victoria Regattas throughout the season, including the most significant regatta of the season, the Head of Schoolgirls Regatta, in which the school has enjoyed much success over the years.

The 2020/2021 season has been one to go down in the history books for St Catherine’s Rowing. In 2021 the St Catherine’s 1st VIII and 2nd VIII were victorious in the Division one and Division two Schoolgirl Eights Events at the Head of Schoolgirls Regatta. This is the first time in St Catherine’s history that we have won either of these events at this regatta, and to win them both in the same year is an outstanding achievement.

Over recent years the St Catherine’s Rowing program has gone from strength to strength, winning a number of medals at the National Championships, as well a number of medals at the Head of School Girls Regatta each year. The St Catherine’s Rowing Program seeks to provide an environment in which students can achieve a personal best performance, they are challenged to be the best they can be and they learn to work together, through building camaraderie and teamwork. The Rowing Program not only provides an opportunity and an experience for our students when at school, but it has been used as a platform to assist students being accepted into, or to gain scholarships at US Colleges and to be selected for Victorian or Australian Rowing Teams.

The parent auxiliary supporting the rowing program is the Heyington Club. The Heyington club supports the advancement and promotes the enjoyment of the Schools Rowing Program. The fundraising activities run by the Heyington Club enable the purchase of new boats, oars, refurbishments and related rowing equipment to ensure that our Rowing Program can continue to pursue excellence and provide the best experience for our St Catherine’s students.

New equipment maximises time spent on the water through less breakages, provides for safer, user-friendly, light weight racing shells for girls to compete in.
