St Christopher’s Junior Rugby League Football Club (JRLFC) & St Christopher’s Cricket Club (CC) are both Community based clubs that provide sporting opportunities to girls and boys from the age of 5 to open age in junior sport in the Canterbury Bankstown District of NSW.
Both clubs have a long and proud tradition in the area and have fostered young players to representative level, including NRL and NSW Cricket. Both clubs have a combined total of 480 registered girls and boys and over 100 officials who are all volunteers. St Christopher’s JRLFC & CC are currently aiming to promote and expand the amount of female participation in sport and the need for a new clubhouse and training facilities are required to achieve this goal.
The Bankstown District Cricket Association (BDCA) which hosts Representative players and kids’ development under the Master Blaster program are also seeking to utilise the upgraded facilities. This is due to the lack of suitable alternatives within the District. Representative players and Master Blaster players currently total 200 participants within the District.
The current facilities at Bill Delauney Reserve, Revesby Heights are outdated and do not meet the requirements of both clubs, the BDCA and the communities that they serve. The current facilities which are in excess of 40 years old are inadequate for females in respect to changerooms in terms of privacy and room. The current clubhouse also has insufficient room for referees, officials, storage, training and meeting rooms.
The aim of this project is to raise money to build a new clubhouse and training facilities that will service both St Christopher’s Junior Rugby League Football Club, St Christopher’s Cricket Club, Canterbury Bankstown District Cricket Association and the broader community including local schools, community groups and other associated sporting groups such as referees and associations. The new facilities would directly benefit over 700 participants and volunteer officials from the St Christopher’s and the BDCA.
NSW Cricket, NSW Rugby League, the Bankstown District Cricket Association and the Bankstown District Junior Rugby League have all acknowledged the need for improved facilities and offered support for the project.
Both clubs are also in the process of applying for Local, State and Federal funding grants to also support this community project.
