My name is David Munk, Im confined to a wheelchair and have recently been selected in the Australian Adaptive Surf Team to compete in The World Adaptive Surf Championships in La Jolla USA in December this year.
Having represented Australia at 3 Winter Paralympics and having won medals in Giant Slalom and Super Giant Slalom at this level I know what is required to compete at the highest levels of sport.
With the very real possibility that Surfing is going to be included as a sport at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics it is my aim to be the first Australian to represent Australia at both skiing and surfing at a Paralympic level as well as these Adaptive World Surfing Championships.
As there is no government funding for this competition, to compete at these World Championships a budget estimate of $10,000.00 is realistic and necessary to cover custom equipment, airfares, accommodation and living expenses for myself and my assistant.
Any assistance, financial or material, your organisations may be able to contribute to this worthwhile project would be of the greatest help.
With the support of Wayne Mckewan of Mt Woodgee Surfboards I am in the process of developing a more performance based custom surfboard to not only show in principal how competitive this design can be but also to use as a way to encourage other disabled people into this sport.
As with any R&D project money and materials are required to move from the prototype stage to the development and testing of potential new designs.
With the growing interest in Adaptive sports worldwide, press and promotion opportunities are becoming more frequent. The amazing growth of social media is also opening a whole new area for the public to see and appreciate the advances being made and those supporting these endevours.
This process promises to be an interesting and calaborative process that will open up the surf not only to those wishing to compete, but to those who have up till now had quite limited opportunity to get back in the water to enjoy the surf and its unique benefits.

Your support in this endeavour would be greatly appreciated.
