Our Irrigation system was installed in the 1960s and added to and changed over the years as the metal pipes corroded and were replaced with pvc / poly ones. Pipes burst regularly wasting water, time, and money. We need to upgrade our irrigation system. The project requires a new irrigation mainline, control system and appropriate connections to tees, greens and fairways when required. Tamborine Mountain relies on tank and bore water only. We lose a lot of water when pipes burst and are very conscious of wasting this precious resource. We need to pump water from the bore uphill on four of our nine holes (approx 30m of elevation over a distance of 500m). For the system to run efficiently we would need two new water tanks for storage in times of need and a more efficient pump system to help push water uphill. With modern technology our greenkeeper or selected volunteer will be able to control the system when offsite. If notified that the greens are stressed, while offsite, sprinklers can be turned on and if it is raining heavily, water can be turned off meaning we are not wasting water. The system would also result in less power usage and a smaller carbon footprint. We will be able to drought proof the course with added water storage capacity and store water for our greens and some for fairways when required. Our aim is to build a system to take us through to 2050. Our Superintendent and course architect spent many months researching what was needed and who to approach for tenders. The result was a tried and tested innovative and evidence-based design matched to the contours and needs of the golf course. Because of the red soil poly pipes can be laid directly in the ground after trenches are cut thus saving the cost of covering the pipes with sand. Apart from 90mm and 63 mm poly pipes an irrigation controller along with solenoid valves, ball valves, lightening protection and new valve boxes are required. The result will be a unique opportunity to provide our community with a first-class sporting venue that meets community requirements now and into the future.

We can provide a course that is appropriate for active recreation, competition (local and district) and the expectations of our members and the Tamborine Mountain community. Tamborine Mountain Golf Club is the only golf course on the Mountain. We want to become more water efficient by controlling water usage on the course. An upgraded system will enable erosion to be minimised, provide us with the capacity to plant more native species, and become a best practice example of a sustainable recreational sporting facility embedded deeply into the community. For the past 30 years the club has also provided water to a local farmer during times of drought to keep his cattle alive at no cost.
