Hi, I'm Tamika and I'm a high school PE teacher in Sydney. I have been selected to represent Australia at the 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championship held in Lahti Finland this August. I'm so excited to represent my country and to share my love of sports with my everyone.
Flag Football is a growing sport in Australia and has recently been announced as an Olympic Sport for Los Angeles 2028. Not sure what Flag Football is? It is the non-contact version of American football/NFL/Gridiron. Much like how Oz Tag/Touch Football is the non-contact version of Rugby League. Similar concept, slightly different rules, and limited contact (and yes, I also play the contact version: Gridiron/NFL).
As a teacher, it is exciting to represent Australia in Flag Football for a second time, living out the dreams and aspirations of many of the young students I teach. It is a great privilege to be one of the pioneering members of the Australian Team. Last year, I was selected to be in the Inaugural Australian Team and competed in the 2023 IFAF Flag Football Asia/Oceana Championship, securing 2nd place, and gaining a world ranking of 10th.
Like a lot of representative sports in Australia, Flag Football is currently a self-funded sport and players are responsible for purchasing and funding their own equipment, training, travel, accommodation, flights, physio, competition costs, uniforms, training camps and the all-important gloves! These costs add up and while it is an incredible privilege to represent Australia I need some help. It would mean so much to me if you could financially support me in my journey to represent Australia, at the World Championships in Flag Football.
