TRV SHOOTING SPORT SCHOLARSHIPS FUND 2023

TRV SHOOTING SPORT SCHOLARSHIPS FUND 2023

Raised

$100.00

Goal

$30,000.00

Target Rifle Victoria with its 40+ affiliated Clubs and 600+ members, like many sporting organisations, wishes to build their membership.  Target Shooting is a very inclusive sport and we are looking to increase our numbers and inclusivity with particular attention to Junior Shooters, Female Shooters, Handicapped, Indigenous and shooters of different Nationalities. For information on our Sport of Target Rifle Shooting, its history, and the people in it, see our web page at trv.org.au .

·       Junior Shooters:

Over recent years the average age of our membership has increased and we are looking to offset this trend by recruiting Junior Members and encouraging existing Junior shooters to strive for higher standards of shooting and look to performing in National, Commonwealth, Olympic and World Championships. Target Shooting offers our younger generation a range of positives as well as the satisfaction of doing well in a sport. They also learn to understand and mange risk. They learn that most of the time they are competing against themselves .... striving to improve their own performance and refine techniques.  They also learn the importance of Teamwork, attention to detail and along with all these attributes they develop a maturity and strong sense of responsibility.

·       Women Shooters:

The introduction of Women into the sport in Australia goes back to the mid 1800’s and yet even today there is a perception that it is a sport for Males. This is quite wrong as Small-bore Target Shooting is one of the most inclusive of all modern sports – men, women, juniors, older participants, physically restricted and competitors from every Race and Culture can all compete on a level playing field.  Competitions are, for the most part, always “mixed” and competitions are not separated into “Men’s” or “Women’s” events.

·       Handicapped Shooters:

Some of Australia’s greatest Small-bore shooters have competed most successfully on the World Stage from a wheelchair.  There are a number of different disciplines available to Small-bore Shooters – Prone, Kneeling, Standing and Benchrest.  As it infers, Benchrest shooting is conducted while seated with the rifle resting on a table – this makes it ideal for older or less mobile shooters such as Amputees or shooters carrying breathing apparatus.

·       Indigenous and International Shooters:

The sport of Small-bore Shooting is extremely popular in Britain, Europe, USA and the Indian Sub-continent. Recently arrived migrants to Australia can quite easily blend into a local club once licencing requirements have been fulfilled and most clubs can help with advice in processing the required paperwork and in some cases help with the practical and Safety requirements of Firearm ownership.

It is anticipated that people in the above categories, after a qualifying period of 3 to 12 Months and / or gain their Junior or Full Licence , will have shown a sufficiently positive aptitude and attitude that an assessment can be made as to whether a Scholarship is appropriate at that time.

Once awarded a scholarship, the successful applicant will continue to be mentored by a Club member to the extent required by the applicant’s Firearms Licencing status. Coaching by members of the host club will be made available along with other tutoring and direction by Professional Coaches including those organised through the National Bodies – Target Rifle Australia and Shooting Australia.

Each Scholarship will include items such as –

·       1 Year Club Fees

·       1 Year TRV Fees

·       Training Ammunition for 40 weeks.

·       Competition Ammunition for competitions as seen as suitable by the Coach/Mentor for the grading achieved.

·       Competition Ammunition

·       Allowance for weekly Club supervision.

·       Allowance for Professional Coaching

The commercial value of these items totals $ 3000 per scholarship.

Each scholarship will be renewable after one year at the discretion of the Club and TRV.

ELIGABILITY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS:

The Scholarships will be open to existing and new members of any club affiliated with TRV.

All members will be eligible for consideration irrespective of age, gender, race, physical prowess, religion or creed.

AWARDING OF SCHOLARSHIPS:

There will be two ways by which a Scholarship will be awarded –

1.    Club Nomination:

Clubs will nominate members who show potential to reach State, National or International Shooting Standards.

Nominations will be considered by TRV Council, scholarships awarded and the recipient, Mentor and donor advised.

2.    Donor Nomination:

If a donor is aware of a suitably deserving club level member, the donor may nominate a specific person to receive a Scholarship and the ratification that nomination would be considered by Council at it’s next monthly meeting.
