About the project

Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council owns and operates The Valleys Lifestyle Centre, located within the Clare Valley Sport & Recreation Precinct. Constructed in 2007, the facility offers a range of fitness & lifestyle facilities for the regional community including:
  • Indoor 10m program pool heated to 32 degrees Celsius used for swimming lessons, walk exercise sessions, tethered swimming, aqua aerobics, water familiarisation sessions, and recovery sessions
  • Outdoor 25m 8 lane solar heated pool including ramp access used for casual public swimming, lap swimming, swimming club activities, carnivals, VacSwim, and holiday programs (seasonal access from October to March)
  • Beach entry, solar heated leisure pool  Fitness centre (gym) with cardio and strength equipment (pin-loaded resistance machines and free weights)
  • Multi-purpose rooms utilised for fitness classes and functions
  • Indoor sports court used for basketball, netball, futsal, indoor cricket, volleyball and gymnastics
  • Three squash courts
  • Café and reception area
  • Foyer
  • Creche
  • Clubrooms including bar, balcony, function space and commercial kitchen (operated independently and leased to the Clare Sports Club not-for-profit association)
  • Changerooms for centre and oval users

In 2015, Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council commissioned an independent review and report relating to the Valleys Lifestyle Centre, seeking to ensure the facility is serving the needs of the community, and to identify works to be undertaken to ensure its ongoing long-term viability.

Council is seeking to respond to the community’s feedback and construct an enclosure over the existing outdoor pool to provide additional shade and a more controlled environment, and to introduce a splash pad to allow for water education and play for the younger members of the community.

The enclosure of the pool will provide the community with greater access and increased opportunity to take part in recreational or competitive swimming. The pool is currently closed throughout winter due to the climate in the region, however the proposed enclosure and heating will provide year round access.

The community’s feedback has overwhelmingly supported the addition of a splash pad / water play area within the Valleys Lifestyle Centre complex. Its introduction will support our young community members in water education and provide a recreational play facility to escape the heat.

The pool enclosure and splash pad are the first stages in a number of planned upgrades for the Valleys Lifestyle Centre, including the establishment of a 24 hour gym, a new facility access system, replacement of the stadium roof, and the introduction of a photovoltaic system.
