TRC has a fleet of 13 single sculls, the youngest of which is 10 years old.

Two single sculls are 'lightweight', one of these being approximately 30 years old - this boat suffers from serious structural decay. 6 of the remaining medium-heavy single sculls have evidence of hull weakness, 3 having been recently repaired to reduce the risk of greater failure.

The shortage of enough and appropriately sized single sculls impacts upon effective delivery of all club training.

We are challenged by:

Number of boats: Guaranteeing a crew for large boats is difficult: the absence of one crew member jeopardises the rowing opportunity of the rest. Having a larger stock of suitably sized singles solves that problem.

Building our membership: Our efforts to attract school-aged children are impeded by the lack of junior weight boats and by the too-regular need to pull a boat out for maintenance or/and repair.

Maintaining our membership: There is a growing call from members to use single sculls. As rowers build confidence, they are able to progress from the collective competence in larger crew boats to take on the more difficult yet more rewarding challenge of single scull rowing.

Boats of appropriate quality: Our aim is to meet the wide needs of the membership and attract new members. This appeal is not for new, competition class racing boats. Certainly, if we can raise funds or 1 or 2 new boats of 'intermediate' quality, we would be well-satisfied. And if there are excess funds collected, we would target additional well-maintained second-hand boats. The target fund value will achieve both of these goals.
