About the project
Total Recreation NT are the sport and recreation inclusion specialists in the Northern Territory. Create - Support - Network - Lobby - Everyone's Included!
Acknowledging the major part that leisure plays in people's lives, Total Recreation was established in 1991 and specialise in the creation and coordination of inclusion activities and initiatives for the disadvantaged and people with a disability in the Northern Territory.
Our programs including, sports, drama, arts and craft, dance, fitness, special events, and holidays are constantly increasing and only limited by our members imagination and desire. We all have the right to experience the opportunity to participating in sport and recreational activities as members of society.
Adult Members The adult members involved in our programs, including tenpin bowling, drama, arts and craft, dance, fitness, special events, and holidays, are constantly increasing. Our adult members have the opportunity to participate in our adult socials run on once a month, which allows them to enjoy social activities in a community setting. The variety of sport and recreational activities we maintain assist our members in becoming active and valued members of their community.
Youth In 2004, it was identified that many students with a disability did not have access to structured sporting sessions during school hours, prompting Total Recreation to start working in schools. The School Sports program aims to close the gap between students with a disability and their peers, providing an equal access to structured physical activity during school hours. The program is delivered to and astonishing amount of students through several sessions each week. Youth members also have the opportunity to become involved in a number of out of school hours programs including gymnastics, tenpin bowling, athletics, soccer, swimming, dance and special events. In addition youth activities are run in the school holidays, allowing our members to have the opportunity to enjoy social activities in a community setting.
Support We offer support in both group and individual programs. Individual programs aim to increase the level of the participant's independence within community based recreational activity. Group programs aim to develop skills specific to the individual's selected recreational activity.
WE CREATE OPPORTUNITIES for people to increase knowledge, gain new skills and develop their own social networks.
WE PROVIDE SUPPORT to people with a disability who have expressed a desire to access recreational activities.
WE NETWORK, COLLECT, AND SHARE information, ideas and options with individuals and organisations.
WE LOBBY other relative organisations, services and the community regarding the rights of all people with a disability to have access to recreational opportunities.
Everyone has the right to be recognised primarily as a person, regardless of their disability.
All people with motivation, individually tailored training and support can develop skills to enhance their choice of lifestyle.
Participating through an individual choice social life provides challenges and opportunities to enhance the quality of a person's lifestyle.
The development of social and recreational participation in people's lives, when the availability of training and support is implemented, will encourage decision making.
Total Recreation has a principally non-elite focus, concentrating on the provision of participation opportunities. Initiatives and decisions are to focus on providing sport and recreational opportunities of permanent value in conjunction with community groups.
All funding will be used to develop and create involvement opportunities in sport an recreational activities, focusing on the disadvantaged and people with disabilities of all ages. Support grassroots, come-try inclusion initiatives and programs for members.
