We aim to purchase up 4 to 8 single scull boats with the
money raised through this project. Many in our current fleet are looking
worn, some have disintegrated and can no longer be repaired and others are
starting break or the shell is softening.
Single sculls are a fundamental building block in the skill development
and racing achievement of many rowers, particularly school children and
high performance athletes.
Upgrading some of our singles fleet will increase the enjoyment and
success of rowers across a wide range of ages as they learn to row and
competing. It will also give us a much needed opportunity to better match
the boat weight ranges to our membership's demography and skill level.
Girls, young boys and small women, for example, struggle to handle and row
well in the boats sized for heavyweight men.
