About the project

We are a rural/remote sporting club in a small farming area on Eyre Peninsula and provide facilities and social events for Eyre United Netball and Football Clubs, Lipson Cricket Club and the Ungarra Tennis Club.

The Ungarra community and surrounding farming district has a town hall, church, primary school, postal agency (open 6 hours/week) and the Ungarra & Districts Community Sports Club at the recreation grounds which incorporates the oval, netball/tennis courts, playground and club rooms. Some of our families live up to 50km from any facilitates so our importance to the social fabric of our community should never be understated.

One of our Netball/Tennis courts has had significant ground shifting under the surface since they were installed by a professional ten years ago, which has caused major cracks across the court. For several years we have tried to fix and patch up the cracks but they continue to grow and become more and more dangerous. The court needs urgent resurfacing to cater for our year round sporting activities.

In a small farming community, sport is our major social event and our family club caters for children and adults of all ages to participate, volunteer and gain a sense of achievement whether they choose to play sport or not.

We fear our current courts will become unplayable if we do not address these major fractures as soon as possible. This would be devastating to our club as our main income is derived from our game days where opposing teams come to our facility to play, enjoy the day and stay for lunch and/or tea.

Maintaining or facilities to a safe standard is a constant battle financially. We do not have poker machines, we rely solely on our sporting and social events and the generosity of our volunteers and sponsors to maintain our small income.
