Sport is widely regarded as a core element of social inclusion and provides opportunities for diverse groups to feel a sense of belonging, trust, cooperation and tolerance, leading to a sense of community.

Through this project, Owls Rugby’s objective is to build trust and forge a stronger connection with the pacific rugby community in Canberra. For 2022 we are working on a cultural development program with the people of Kanokupolu in Tonga, whose entire village was destroyed by the Tsunami. 

This will be done by utilising rugby’s broad community to demonstrate sport’s overall ability to provide opportunities for diverse groups who we then hope will see value in engaging in sporting activities, specifically rugby.  We aim to encourage and build a deeper connection between our Pacifica friends and local sporting (rugby) community by supporting causes that demonstrate social inclusion. Through this project we aim to provide cultural development and leadership opportunities for members of the Owls Rugby Club.
