The Unley Park Sports Club (UPSC) will celebrate its centenary in 2023.

But we are not just a Sports club.

We are part of the Unley community with our main buildings the Kidman Room (named after our first patron Sir Sidney Kidman) and the Barton Room being used for a variety of functions ranging from business seminars to birthday functions, engagement parties, christmas parties, keep fit classes and weekly Buddies and Belles Breakfasts sponsored by the Unley Council.

These functions are our major revenue generator and all are managed and staffed by volunteers from the club.

Since those early days when the club was formed at a meeting in the Unley Town hall on May 21, 1923 we have grown to around 300 members across the four subsidiary clubs. (Croquet, Bowls, Petanque and Tennis).

Apart from our members about 4000 corporate and community people use our facilities annually.

Our sports facilities cater for all ages with the majority of membership being in the plus 50 age group but we also have around 60 children and 15-20 adults getting tennis lessons four times a week and all four clubs host school groups at different times of the year to participate in each of our sports.

The history of the club is extremely important to many of our members (some have been members for 50 plus years) so the UPSC committee wanted to ensure that 2023 would be a memorable year in the club’s history.

To celebrate our 100 year anniversary the club is upgrading and improving the main entrance and street boundary presentation and we need your help to achieve our goal.

We envisage that the upgrade will not only improve the facility but when complete it will attract more members to the Unley Park Sports Club and will also be instrumental in attracting more requests for the Unley Park Sports Club facility to host functions involving the community and businesses within the area.

It's a win win for the club and the local community.

This development project includes the demolition of the existing 1920's fence and the old shrubbery with a new heritage style fencing incorporating a much more visible arbour style entrance highlighting this historic club.

The interior of the Kidman room will be refreshed with a coat of paint and new chairs.

Some of the key dates that we will celebrate with functions and events 100 years on are

  • May 21, 1923 – Formation of Unley Park Sports Club in Unley Town Hall
  • June 12, 1923 – Formation of individual Sports Clubs
  • August 23, 1923 – Patron Sir Sidney Kidman turned the first sod for the new facilities
  • May 31, 1924 – Lady Kidman laid foundation stone of the club house
  • October 25,1924 – Grounds and Clubhouse opened by Sir Sidney Kidman

We are working in partnership with the Unley Council to achieve our goals.

But we are a local community sports club relying on funds from functions and membership fees and now we require additional funds to complete the upgrade.

We need your help to complete the upgrade, so please make a donation so that we can achieve our goal.

Any donations to assist us in our upgrade of the club facilities to celebrate our centenary will be greatly appreciated as the club is not just another sports club it is part of the community and the history of the Unley Park area.
