About the project

Australia’s Women’s and Men’s Water Polo Teams, the Aussie Stingers and Aussie Sharks, have experienced much success on the international sporting stage over many years.
While Water Polo Australia (WPA) supports the teams through funding received through the AIS, additional money is needed specifically to support both teams in the final year of preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Historically the final year of preparation for Australian teams is the most financially demanding with significantly increased national team preparation activities, namely training camps and international competition.
In the last 12 months of an Olympic Games preparation, it costs the program approximately $2million.
Water Polo Athletes are not full time athletes and are required to have a job to supplement their income while in pursuit of their Olympic aspirations. But during the final year of an Olympic campaign players are required to take additional time off work in order to prepare so they can dedicate their efforts towards the Olympics.
Funds raised through this project will go towards supporting athletes in their final year preparation as well as allow WPA to host international events/test series in Australia. Hosting of international events and test series will increase exposure to international competition and showcase our national teams to the Australian fans. This will also provide opportunities for WPA to promote the sport and increase growth of the game.
Support our Aussie Stingers and Aussies Sharks on their Trek to Tokyo!
