Wellington Shire Council

Gippsland Regional Sports Complex Synthetic Field

About

Background
A new synthetic pitch and accessible sports pavilion has been approved for construction at the Gippsland Regional Sports Complex in Sale. This $3 million project is jointly funded by:

  • $650,000 from the State Government's Community Sports Infrastructure Fund
  • $1.35 million from Wellington Shire Council
  • $1 million from the John Leslie Foundation
  • $50,000 community funding

The new synthetic pitch will primarily be used by hockey teams from Sale, Maffra, Wellington, Bairnsdale, Nagle, Orbost and Swan Reach who are part of the East Gippsland Hockey Association. However, other sports users such as soccer and football will also utilise this brand new facility for training and modified competitions all year round.

Detailed design for the project is currently underway and the construction tender will be sought later this year. The project is due to be completed by the end of 2017.

Current Situation
As part of the funding requirements for this project, the community is required to raise $50,000 as the contribution towards these important and essential new sporting facilitates.

Since the project was given the green light earlier this year, the hockey community has raised an amazing $32,000 and have reached 65% of the $50,000 target. This has been achieved through donations to the Australian Sports Foundation, local fundraising events, club sponsorship deals and membership contributions.

The hockey community is reaching out to other sporting groups, community members and local businesses to get on board and help raise the remaining $18,000.

With some exceptional emerging talent in the local hockey arena and access to a great new facility, there is every chance that there will be a number of future hockey champions coming from the region in the future.

Any contribution you can make will be greater appreciated.
