Wendy Walsh is a member of the Finesse Built team and will be embarking on a journey to serve as the Assistant Coach of the Australian Under 20s Women's Lacrosse Team for the 2024 World Championships held in Hong Kong.
With over 40 years of playing experience, Wendy has been a cornerstone of lacrosse in Australia. Her illustrious career includes 16 years of representing South Australia in the Seniors National Teams, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership, serving as captain for five of those years. Wendy's commitment to excellence and her ability to inspire her teammates were
pivotal in shaping the success of her teams.
Wendy's achievements on the international stage are equally impressive. She has played for the Australian Senior Women's Teams for 14 years, earning two silver medals and one bronze medal at the World Cups in Manchester (1993), Japan (1997), and Scotland (2001). Her leadership qualities shone brightly as she captained the team in the 2001 World Cup, guiding her teammates with unwavering determination and skill.
Beyond her playing career, Wendy has devoted 15 years to coaching junior and senior club teams, passing her knowledge and passion for the game to the next generation of lacrosse players. Since 2022, she has been coaching the U18 state team, further solidifying her commitment to nurturing young talent and has broken a record where 10 players selected in the 2024 Under 20 Australian Team are from South Australia.
In recognition of her dedication to the sport and her exemplary character, she was chosen to represent South Australian lacrosse by running with the Olympic torch during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. This honor underscores her status as a revered figure in the Lacrosse community and a role model for aspiring athletes.
As Wendy steps into the role of Assistant Coach for the Australian Under 20s Women's Lacrosse Team, her wealth of experience, leadership, and unwavering dedication will undoubtedly propel the team to new heights. Her passion for Lacrosse and her commitment to fostering the development of young athletes make her an invaluable asset to the team. Lacrosse is a self-funded sport, and all players and coaches are required to pay their own way,
which can amount to anywhere between $13,000 to $15,000 for each World Cup. Those involved at the elite level of Lacrosse work tirelessly to fundraise and secure sponsorships to cover these significant costs. Wendy's dedication to the sport extends beyond the field as she actively engages in these efforts to ensure she and her team can compete at the highest level without the financial burden.
We wish to support Wendy Walsh in her fundraising efforts and are confident that her contributions will leave a lasting legacy on the Australian Under 20s Women's Lacrosse Team.
Please join me and the Finesse Built team in supporting Wendy as she takes on this exciting new challenge and continues to inspire future generations of lacrosse players.
