About the project

Vikings was established in 1958 and is the oldest (and most successful) rugby club in the Illawarra.

Apart from its senior rugby club, Vikings also has one of the largest junior rugby clubs in the Illawarra. We regularly host finals games, and last year hosted a Waratahs vs Brumbies Colts match. The field itself is considered one of the best in the Illawarra.

Through the establishment of the Vikings Rugby Club Foundation, the club is looking to ensure sustainable success both on and off field for years to come.

Donations to this project will fund programs and initiatives related to:

  • Facility Improvement and Maintenance.
  • Elite Development
  • Junior Development for Boys and Girls
  • Community Engagement
  • Heritage

The first major project will be the redevelopment of the clubhouse.

The current building was constructed by members of the club in the early 1980s.

The current building has not been added to or improved on since the early 1980s.

Unfortunately, the current building is suffering from significant termite damage, and requires fairly urgent remediation.

We intend to position Vikings Rugby Club as the #1 Rugby Facility in Illawarra, and increase reach of the facility to a broader range of community users by

a) Outdoor deck for better viewing & weather protection

b) New Change rooms and fit out so that is Female and Juniors Friendly; this is an area we are looking to grow, however the current facilities available limit this.

This will enable the club to attract representative games (National Rugby Championship and Senior/Junior NSW Country Championships) and other events to region as well as address improved access to the facility for patrons, in particular those with a disability.
