About the project

World Gay Boxing Championships (WGBC) is a straight-friendly, LGBTQI+ inclusive organisation aiming to introduce boxing to LGBTQI+ and society at large in a challenging, enjoyable and safe environment. Our goal is to hold a safe and successful boxing championship in Sydney in February 2023 to coincide with the city hosting Mardi Gras and World Pride. By doing this, we aim to disrupt and end homophobia and transphobia in sport.

Our first event will be a Fight Night in Sydney in June 2021 and we have been reliant on the contributions of volunteers to build the company and its presence. We need to raise $50,000 to build a community and critical infrastructure, and raise awareness. This will include media and public relations, online toolkits for participants and building a policy framework.

Your donation will help us to increase the numbers of our registered boxers and create a step change in our social media footprint and to helping the nearly 90% of LGBTQI+ people who believe homophobia and transphobia remain major problems in sport.

Please donate. Any donation of $2 or more is tax-deductible and will make a big contribution to our goals.

If you need further information or would like to volunteer with us please contact Jenny Vaz or Martin Stark at worldgayboxingchampionships@gmail.com
