A letter from the Wynnum Manly Seagulls CEO, Hanan Laban
Dear Seagulls supporters,
We are in the midst of one of the biggest challenges that our communities and families will face.
All of our lives changed as we have been unable to do the normal everyday activities which we love.
One activity which has been taken away from all of us, is the opportunity to cheer on the Wynnum Manly Seagulls Rugby League Football Club this year.
All of our competitions, the Intrust Super Cup, Hastings Deering Colts (U20s) and Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup (U18s), have been cancelled and there will not be any further games played in these competitions in 2020. It is a tough pill to swallow considering all of the great work done in the preseason by the players and coaches, and the high hopes carried into 2020.
The season’s cancellation hurts in multiple ways: it takes away the platform for our players to develop, we can no longer provide entertainment to our community and it places pressure on the club’s sustainability due to large financial hit.
A large portion of fixed football expenses are paid at the start of the year with revenue then generated over the course of the season, including important home game income at BMD Kougari Oval. The timing of the cancellation of the season means we paid out those expenses and will now not have the opportunity to generate revenue to cover them.
The financial impact represents a challenge to how the club operates into the future and the programs we can continue to offer to our community and wider regions.
We have done everything possible to limit our expenditure and are fortunate to have loyal partners who have remained committed to the club. However to ensure that the proud Wynnum Manly Seagulls will remain the strong community club that we all love into the future – we are making a call to our members, supporters, family and friends to provide support.
For those that are in a position to support the club, we have created three main ways you can support the Gulls including supporting our Seagulls Foundation here with a fully tax deductible donation.
We understand this isn’t possible for many in the current climate and appreciate all our supporters.
One way everyone can be involved is to encourage their friends and family to get behind the club, even if you can’t yourself.
Our best wishes to you and your family members.
As always, up the Gulls!
Wynnum Manly Seagulls
Chief Executive Officer
Donations of $2 or more is fully tax deductible and with end of financial year just around the corner, the return is not far away.
