Bankstown Jets received a G4G grant in 2015 to advertise and run a ‘come and try’ day to support under 7’s and 9’s players participate in safe and fun team sport at little or no cost to the players of the local community.
“We had well over a hundred children participate in our ‘come and try’ day and about 120 under 7 and under 9 children participated in our local summer competition. This enable many children from low socio-economic and other disadvantaged groups to participate in a team sport for little or no cost. This was particularly important in the Bankstown area where cost is a barrier to participation in sport for many local families” Graeme Wilkinson, Jets Treasurer told us.
The Jets goal now is to keep these young kids active and involved in touch football. Their committee of volunteers will be working very hard over the Winter to encourage and support these children to come back next season and enjoy their sport.
