Murwillumbah High School is a country high school situated on the North Coast of NSW with an enrolment of 453 students. The school caters for a wide range of students with varying social-economic backgrounds and varying academic abilities. Students with special needs are encouraged to participate in all areas of the school curriculum. Accommodations and adjustments are made to allow them to fully access the curriculum.
Special Needs students attend a 3-day 2night camp at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre where they can access the sporting facilities and have intensive instruction in specific sports and problem-solving activities with emphasis on skills and team building and trust exercises. Students would complete the ropes course and climbing wall and problem solving activities. At Lake Ainsworth students would complete a series of cooperative and team and problem-solving exercises to allow for more successful interaction with all social groups at school and development of wider friendship groups.
