North Balga Primary in WA has 235 students, of which 18% are Indigenous and 46% have English as a second language, there are 23 different countries of birth and 38 first languages.
In conjunction with the University of WA, North Balga PS will host active programs to develop physical literacy skills, motivation and confidence, this is a pathway to regular and ongoing participation in sport and physical activity. In addition to helping the students, their program also works with teachers to improve their knowledge of teaching movement skills. Parent participation in programs are encouraged and gives families and students the opportunity to practice their oral language skills in a fun and non-judgemental way – something they may not have access to outside of school.
The Sport4Everyone funds will allow North Balga to run this program for students and families for three terms completely free of charge.
