North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics Centre are using their Sport4Everyone grant to cover registration fees and uniform costs for a group of 40 multi-class athletes with special needs (physical and mental disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders).
The group has grown from initially 6 athletes, to 16 athletes in its second year, to 33 athletes last season in two dedicated groups, and will expect between 40-50 athletes in the groups next season. NRCLAC is the only Little Athletics centre in Australia to offer a dedicated group for these athletes.
Club membership will provide the recipients with the opportunity for a healthier lifestyle as well as the benefits that come from enhanced community participation. The benefits carry through to the athletes’ families as they become involved with a vibrant community-minded group. NRCLAC provides a supportive environment to encourage and assist individuals in their social development, learning, and self-esteem.
