Singleton PCYC in NSW are using their Sport4Eveyone grant for “Friday Afternoon Fun”, aimed at local disability support groups. The Friday fun activities aim to encourage, empower and support young people living with a disability toward independence and social inclusion through participation in games that promote and build resilience, confidence and respect. These games and activities are also open to parents, families, and carers to advocate for family members living with a disability.
The Sport4Everyone funding will enable young people living with disabilities to learn teamwork, motor skills as well as about the benefits of a healthy active lifestyle. Research shows that positive participation in sport and games has a positive flow-on effect to other areas such as school attendance, performance, and social awareness. Afternoon tea will be offered after the games and activities to encourage parents and siblings to attend and network with other families.
