The Somali Welfare and Cultural Centre will use their Sport4Everyone grant to coordinates the annual Africultures Festival the largest African themed festival in Australia. They work with culturally diverse communities in Western Sydney. Their primary goal is to promote and support grassroots projects that have tangible social community and recreational outcomes. We provide programs for girls, women, children and young people. Specific services include Women’s Mutual Aid group which supports isolated women in building community networks.
This project aims to introduce socioeconomically disadvantaged families from refugee and culturally diverse communities in Western Sydney to participation in local grassroots sports. The project will include a come and try sports day targeting families of all ages. Local sports clubs AFL, NRL, soccer, tennis, basketball, cricket, netball, and athletics will be partners for this project
