The Victorian Wheelchair Basketball Association is based in Kilsyth, Victoria and runs a domestic Wheelchair Basketball competition specifically for individuals with a physical disability. They encourage able-bodied individuals such as friends and family to jump in a wheelchair when available and have a go!
The participants of this sport require specific sports wheelchairs, the cost can sometimes be too much for some families especially with the medical bills that are associated with some disabilities. Wheelchairs can cost anywhere up to $15,000. Their are kids as young as 9 years old playing in the competition and as they grow, they need to update their chair every couple of years, which is an expensive exercise.
The club will use the Sport4Everyone funds to purchase wheelchairs so that they can have these available to kids and individuals who cannot afford their own wheelchair and friends or family who want to give the sport a go.
