We know only too well that launching a fundraising campaign can feel like a daunting task – so much to do! So much to think about! Where do I start?
If you take a bit of time at the beginning to develop an overall plan and then break it down into several phases, you’ll be underway in no time.
One really important thing to bear in mind is that the most successful fundraising campaigns we have seen are those that match you and your organisation’s capabilities.
Make sure you are realistic in terms of your overall goal and don’t overstretch or overcommit.
Remember to use your existing strengths and think about making the most of all of the opportunities and infrastructure that you already have in place. This might be an existing Facebook page, app, newsletter or regular meet-ups.
1. Set your fundraising goal – What are your fundraising for, when do you need it by and how much do you need?
Make sure your goal is SMART
2. Create your story- tell your audience how the donation is going to positively impact the organisation and who is going to benefit – will it be the donor themselves through new equipment or lower rego costs?
3. Create your timeline. When are you going to ask, how will you ask (newsletter, face-to-face, social media)?
You need to know when you are going to talk to your donors and how. Make a list of the activity, responsibility and the status of each activity. Our template below can help to get you started.
Remember to monitor each activity. How many donations were received after each activity? This will help you in the future to use the most successful medium for your campaign.
4. Put your plan into action- start your fundraising
Once you have your plan it’s time to put it into action! Remember it is important to review your progress. Make sure fundraising is on the agenda at your committee meetings so you can share your successes but also make changes to your plan if you need.
