Hi my name is Callan Robertson and I’m very excited to be selected as part of the School Sport ACT 12 & Under Golf Team for 2018. I’ll be travelling with the team to the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria to compete in this event from 11- 15 November. This is an annual national schools event that attracts considerable talent and potential champions of the future. Playing junior golfers outside of the ACT is important, because until I do I won't know just how good I need to become a top amateur or even a professional player one day, and maybe represent Australia in Asia or Europe.
This event is one of very few opportunities provided to kids in my age group across the country. I am really dedicated to achieving personal bests and being an excellent ambassador for my school – Chapman Primary – and the ACT.
As you may be aware the costs involved for young athletes like myself to attend these championships are financially very demanding. As I'm only 12 years old, my Dad will have to attend the SSA U12s golf championships with me and we'll need to travel from Canberra, ACT, to the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria so that I can compete. This involves paying for airfares/car hire, meals and accommodation over the four days. My Dad estimates that it will cost up to $2,500 to travel and compete in this particular event.
My parents have, through the Australian Sports Foundation, created a sports based fundraising page. The benefit of using the Australian Sports Foundation is that all donations are tax deductible so you can recoup some of your donation at tax time! So any financial contribution that you can provide so that I can play in this golf event in November, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.
