"Bikes Palya helps kids in the community by fixing their bikes. It’s a really great program being able to help kids fix and maintain their bikes and they can learn along the way" – Darralee Gibson, Whyalla Youth Centre.

"We don’t get a lot of visitors through, but we were thankful for Beth and Tommy. The kids have connected with those two wonderfully, it’s been perfect" – Carrina Jenkins, Port Augusta Youth Centre.

Bike SA is committed to expanding Bikes Palya to reach more children across more regional communities. Currently, Bikes Palya is only partly funded, in large thanks to generous support from our partners. Bikes Palya continues to rely on community and private donations to survive.

You can help today by donating to the program, and by encouraging friends and family to donate too.

Your donation can make a difference

$1000 = delivery of 1 program day 2000km from Adelaide.

$400 = 3 years' worth of spares.

$300 = a set of tools for a remote community.

$80 = 1 donated bike delivered to a remote community.

About Bikes Palya

Since 2005, the Bikes Palya mission has been to engage and empower disadvantaged youth and their communities to deliver improved health, education and employment outcomes.

We achieve this by establishing community assets (bikes, tracks, workshops) to improve access to bikes and cycling infrastructure. We teach individuals and communities about bike mechanics, track building and maintenance.

We aim to provide skills training to establish employment pathways to jobs in cycling industries. And, we use the high popularity of bikes to support and strengthen existing youth and health services.

All while contributing to regional development aims through supporting cycle tourism and promoting recreational cycling and active mobility throughout South Australia.

“We’re tackling how to help engage students in school and if we can reward them with bikes and the workshops and learning that comes with them, we can broaden the horizons for these kids in so many ways.” – Brett Gillett, Bicycle SA CEO

‘"B. was a shy small little skinny kid, who lacked confidence. At the start of the year, I was very worried about him, he wouldn’t speak. Now he is leading the pack, he’s got it" – SSO Jarrod Camwell- Dunbar, Whyalla Secondary School.

"B. has grown in confidence; he is raving about the program and seems to be a happier lad" – B’s father.
