Indigenous Marathon Project

Indigenous Marathon Project

The Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) is a DGR registered health promotion charity established in 2009 by world champion marathon runner, Robert de Castella. The IMP uses the marathon as a vehicle to drive change and promote healthy lifestyles to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The project annually selects a group of 12 young Indigenous men and women to complete the New York City marathon, off just six months of training. Many of the runners come from some of Australia's (and the world's) most isolated and remote areas, making the challenge almost unimaginable. The ultimate outcome of the IMP is to inspire Indigenous communities nation-wide to become active and adopt healty lifestyles, which will in turn help to reduce health related illnesses that are significantly affecting Indigenous Australians at alarmingly higher rates than non-Indigenous Australias. The IMP relies heavily on community support to be able to provide this life-changing opportunity. Supporting this project is critical to the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people across Australia and their life expectancy. Donate today.
