Andrew Barber

Andrew Barber

Water Polo was ranked number one as the toughest sport in the entire world ( Business Insider August 2016). That's why I love it! My name is Andrew Barber and I am 21 years old. With training, gym and competition taking up to 12 sessions a week and my volunteer coaching of an U16 and U18 boys team there is little time for anything else in conjunction with University. My family make tremendous sacrifices to fund and support me with the rigorous training program and competition whether it be local, interstate or international. In 2017 I was fortunate to be selected in the Born 2002 Australian team that trained in Montenegro and competed at the Darko Cucic Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. I was very proud to be selected in an Australian Representative team. In July 2019 I was selected in the Born 2002 Australian team to tour Europe. The tour was to Amsterdam, Budapest and Herceg Novi in Montenegro, again an amazing experience to develop my game against tough European teams. I am currently a member of the Junior Men's Australian squad and competed in New Zealand in a five game Test Series in July 2022. I am striving to be the best player I can and play at the highest possible level in a sport I love. In January 2020 I made my debut in the Australian Water Polo League playing for the Torpedoes. I continue to represent UWA Torpedoes. In 2023 I coached WA State 17&U Boys team and was Assistant coach for 19&U Men winning a bronze medal at National State Championships. By establishing this Australian Sports Foundation Fund it will assist me in pursuing as many opportunities as possible. All funds will be applied to my training program and travel costs to gain the necessary experience in competition to help me become the best player possible.

Andy, thank you for stepping up and coaching the 07 boys team. You turned their playing around and showed them how games should be played. With clear headed intention and commitment to team work. Thank you.
