We are an up and coming youth sailing team heading to Vilamoura Portugal in September for the Sailing Champions League Open World Championships. As well as this we will be travelling around New South Wales and Australia competing in the Youth Match Racing circuit.
Our next event will be the CYCA Match Cup on June 29th. We are currently sailing under Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club as a part of the Youth Development program.
Earlier this year we travelled to Antibes, France to compete in a grade 2 Match Racing event. This was a massive learning experience for our team where we learnt how to work well together after spending all our time together as well as the difficulties in travelling internationally to compete in sailing events. Immediately after this event we flew to South Australia for the Sailing Champions League Asia Pacific Finals. Here in South Australia is where we qualified ourselves and our club, RPAYC to go to the Open Worlds. We finished the regatta 2nd overall and 1st youth team.
Our main goal as a team is to win the Sailing Champions League Open Finals and to become the number one youth match racing team while doing the best we can and getting the most experience that we can but this means we have to travel which means we are seeking support to help us reach these goals. Our goals are ambitious but we believe with your help we can move towards reaching them!
Our team consists of Hugo Butterworth as the skipper, Bayley Taylor as the main trimmer, Joshua Paulson as the Trimmer, Annabelle Sampson as bow and Walter Tuite as float.
We have a lot of experience between us with Josh and Bayley having sailed their first Sydney to Hobart in 2023, we were the youngest members to race in 2023. The whole team has sailed optis with Josh, Annabelle and Hugo moving into the 29er fleet and Bayley into the lasers. Walter and Annabelle are still studying at high school. Bayley is a second year university student studying security studies and working at Pantaenius part time, Hugo has finished his HSC and is taking a gap year to sail and also works at Pantaenius full time. Josh is pursuing sailmaking as an apprentice at North Sails and sailing.
We will only be travelling to Portugal with a crew of 4, unfortunately Walter is unable to come along as he will be focussing on year 12 but we are still a team of 5 and will be competing in Australian events as a team of 5.
