Hi. I am Ben and I have the honour and privilege to be representing Australia at the upcoming 2022 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal. I am very excited to be competing at my very first world championship event. Being able to compete against the best Laser youth sailors in the world at this event will be an enormous and valuable learning experience for me. not to mention the opportunity it will give me to further refine my technical skills and test myself on the world stage.

Sailing is my passion and I have worked really hard over the past 5 seasons to reach this point. I started as an optimist sailor and then moved into the Flying Ants for a while before jumping into the Laser a couple of years ago. I train regularly throughout the week and race on weekends. I also compete at several state and national based regattas, and some recent performances in just this season past include a 4th place (ILCA 4) at the 2021 NSW/ACT Metropolitan Championships, 11th place (ILCA 4) at the 2021 NSW/ACT State Championships, 8th place (ILCA 4) at 2022 Sail Melbourne, 2nd place (ILCA 4) at the 2022 NSW/ACT Metropolitan Championships and a 4th place (ILCA 4) at the 2022 East Coast Championships.

Of course, embarking on a journey to the World Championships comes at a significant cost with airfares, accommodation, coaching fees, boat charter, and equipment being just some of the considerations.
