Construct an underpass of Heffron Road for the safe passage of staff and machinery, and all golfing traffic. DA prepared for lodgement. This matter has been identified by the Board as a significant risk to the club and an underpass is the club’s long term solution to eliminate that risk especially when Meriton completes all of its planned development on Banks Ave. A unique solution to minimise the risk has been approved by council and Transport NSW ($105k) whereby a second set of traffic lights would be installed at our cost alongside the current pedestrian light controlled crossing for the passage of our staff and machinery (and motorised golf carts). We see this as an interim solution and we are now just awaiting final approval from Greater Sydney Roads before construction commences. (A contractor has been appointed.) Council installed the new zebra pedestrian crossing incorrectly thinking that the club’s concerns only related to pedestrian golfers. Club has made numerous submissions to council on any Meriton DA activity seeking funding support for an underpass without success. Council/Traffic NSW may take the view that the need for underpass would cease when the interim traffic light solution is completed.
