Cameron competes in his chosen sport of Karate and has been since the age of 11. Over the years he achieved consistent improvements and the goal soon become competing for Australia.

In 2022, after winning the Victorian State Championships, Cam set his sights on winning the 2022 Australian Open with the hope to achieve National selection to represent Australia in the 2022 Oceania Tournament and the WKF World Youth Championships. However, not long after winning the States, he received bad news when he was diagnosed with a bi-lateral fracture in his spine.

Cam missed the Australian Open and his opportunity for selection for Australia. After a slow and steady recovery Cam, with only 2 weeks training, finished third in the 2022 Australian National Championships.

In May 2023 Cam was finally selected to represent Australia in the 2023 Cadet & Junior Oceania Championships after winning the 2023 State Championships in his age division and finishing second in the Seniors category.

Now Cam is looking to 2024 and the goal to represent Australia in the World Youth Championships.

Cam has now moved up a division to the Under 21's, where the competition takes the next step into an elite area, being up against much older and more developed athletes. To achieve National team selection and representing his country, training has to go to the next level.

Taking into account the injuries he has sustained, training at a higher level requires not only hard work but significant risk management to ensure the elite levels required can be met without risk of re-injuring the spine.

Karate, whilst a popular sport, simply lacks the required funding from government and industry to allow athletes to train and develop in a true elite environment. Costs are almost entirely paid for by the athlete and their families. Grants that are available, do not even cover the cost of travel for the athlete to a single Tournament interstate. Access to the industry professionals and facilities required for this level training are not free.

We are now fundraising to cover the costs for Cam to achieve his goals. Memberships, uniforms, training, equipment, qualifying competitions, travel, accommodation, gym, personal training sessions, physiotherapy and treatment are just some of the costs that required to get performance to the level required and compete in the Tournaments required to qualify and achieve selection.
