We believe rugby is about more than just winning. It is a game that creates friendships and strengthens our community. At Royals Rugby, we have fostered and continue to nurture countless friendships, and have helped our players become the best versions of themselves, both as players and as members of our community.

To be able to continue to support our players, Royals is intending to raise $20,000 through the Royals Player Welfare and Support Fund. The priorities for the Fund are player mental health and wellbeing through:

• accessible support and counselling services;
• viable loss of income insurance and;
• a scheme to provide some medical gap cover over and above that provided by Rugby Australia.

In addition, through mechanisms that are already in-place, the Fund will provide study/training and employment opportunities, accommodation assistance, and financial advice.

We are doing this so we can continue attracting and supporting our players to succeed in their sport and in their lives, in this day and age we need to do more. Lack of employment and career opportunities, pressures of study, personal and family issues, out of pocket medical expenses, the risk of injury and subsequent loss of income are all things that dissuade players from commencing or continuing their rugby careers. The reality is, we are an amateur club in a semi-professional environment. As a point of difference, Royals are determined to be renowned as a club that looks after the welfare of their players and supports them is all aspect of their lives.
