Chilli Sparke European training and racing XC and biathlon

Chilli began biathlon in 2019 as a way to summer train for XC skiing, and loved the challenge of target shooting and skiing. She won the NSW Junior Biathlon (laser) and the NSW interschools XC skiing (Div 4). She went on to win a gold medal at the Australian Interschools XC (Div 4).

Unfortunately Covid-19 meant no biathlon or XC ski competitions in 2020 and 2021, however Chilli kept fitness up in hockey, rep hockey, mountainbiking, water polo, rep waterpolo, cricket, touch football, rugby 7s training trampolining, horseriding and work on the family farm.

Early 2021 also brought devastating news as Chilli learnt of a very large cyst inside her spinal chord, and underwent lifesaving brain surgery in March 2021. She has recovered spectacularly, slowed down slightly by several broken ankles since. Her fierce determination and drive to succeed has aided her recovery.

Chilli is strong, her reflexes are sharp, her fitness is good and she is ready to take her training to the next level.

In 2022 Chilli raced her first biathlon races in Australia, achieving a silver medal in the U16 Vic Sprint, and a gold in U16 Vic individual. In the Australian National Championships Chilli raced up in the U18 division and came 6th in the Sprint and won Silver in the Mass start!

This European winter Chilli has the opportunity to improve her XC skiing training and racing with Snow AUS XC development squad in the Czech Republic and Austria. She will follow with biathlon training and racing with a view to qualifying for Youth Junior World Championships (Biathlon) in 2023.

The 'white summer' will really accelerate her training, as Chilli is now old enough to race in IBU events to earn qualifying points for Australia's Youth Olympic squad.

Chilli's goal is to gain selection to represent Australia in the 2024 Youth Olympic Games in Biathlon and beyond.

Please consider a tax deductible donation to help her on her way - you will not find a more determined young woman to support!

Thankyou.
