The Federation of International Touch World Cup is the pinnacle of Touch Football. Forty nations will attend the 2024 World Cup in Nottingham, England from 14 to 21 July.
Representing Australia. in an amateur sport like Touch Football, is not cheap, especially when coming from regional areas.
Achieving selection in the men's 50's Australian Touch team has been a long journey. To achieve your dream it requires sacrifices and dedication. It also comes at a cost both in financial and time terms.
There are many steps involved before an athlete is selected to play for a local representative team let alone an Australian team. Countless hours of training and, for regional athletes needing to gain exposure in larger cities, endless hours of commuting to firstly qualify for selection and then to attend training and competitins.
Every level progressed adds to the cost players need to contribute out of their own pocket as Touch Football is an amateur sport.
Master's players selected to represent Australia need to cover all costs
Those who are selected to represent Australia in the Master's divisions (women's 27s to men's 55s) are required to cover all costs associated with attendance at the World Cup, training camps, formal events and Touch Football Australia's levy.
Based in regional NSW attendance at the four training camps requires travel to and accommodation in Sydney and Brisbane.
Additionally all players must organise and pay for their own flights and transport to Nottingham and back to Australia, travel insurance and food while at the World Cup.
My World Cup experience will have flow on benefits to local junior players
With an ability to impart knowledge gained from the tournament, other teams, coaches and my teammates the World Cup experience will have flow on benefits to local juniors and senior players who I coach and play alongside at domestic and representative level.
My passion for seeing juniors develop and find a pathway from park touch to representative touch will grow increase from participating in the World Cup. From personal experience I aim to inspire junior players to dream of and achieving the goal of representing Australia.
Not seeking assistance to cover all costs
Travel and accommodation are expensive, especially when faced with the World Cup in England. So while I would gratefully accept more than my target I am only seeking your assistance to help offset some of the costs associated with the representing Australia at the 2024 Touch World Cup.
