Deaf Basketball Australia's national senior teams, the Geckos (Women) and Goannas (Men) have qualified for the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympic Games in November. We need your help to send them to Tokyo!

The Geckos have recently returned to competition after a 15-year hiatus, winning silver at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Deaf Basketball Championships and locking in their spot at the Deaflympics. They are ramping up their preparations to take the next step on the international stage. The Goannas are currently 2x Asia-Pacific Deaf Basketball Champions and they are hoping to build on their 2024 Asia-Pacific gold medal with more success against the best teams in the world in Tokyo.

Help us support the Geckos and Goannas as they represent Australia at the Deaflympics and cover their travel, accommodation and competition expenses.

Currently, the cost is around $6,000 for each athlete to participate in the 2025 Games.

Whilst we will work with our governments and Sport organisations to seek appropriate funding, we will still need your support to assist our team members. The Geckos and Goannas programs do not have recurrent funding or sponsorship in place and at present each athlete pays to represent the Green and Gold of Australia. 

For the Geckos and Goannas to compete at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan, the costs are significant. The minimum costs include:

🏀 Training camps in the lead up to the games (Both the Geckos and Goannas are training monthly in Melbourne where the selected squad flies in to train over a weekend before departing to continue individual training in their home states)

👟 Training uniforms

✈️ Return flights to Tokyo from Australia

🏠 Accommodation

✏️ Registration fees, and

⛹🏻‍♀️ Playing, warm-up and national athlete uniforms.

If we are unable to raise significant funds, the athletes will need to self-fund just to be able to compete. Each athlete is currently committing to the program on top of their regular jobs and studies.

We are urgently seeking any kind of financial support/sponsorship and are hoping that this is something you or your organisation will generously consider. Any contribution, no matter how large or small would be most appreciated.
